Moka5 Crashing Macworld

Macworld is going on this week in San Francisco, and so a couple of us from Moka5 grabbed a MacBook Pro and a handful of USB drives to go crash the show and do backroom demos of the just-released Moka5 for Mac OS X beta. You can now use the same USB drive on both Mac and Windows with all your LivePCs, so now you can use your LivePC in even more places. Unfortunately, we got stuck in the registration fiasco and missed the keynote. But it all turned out well - we got our badges and had fun cruising the show floor. We made the most of our free registration and did private demos of a new Mac product in a corner near the South Hall escalators. There was a Taiwanese outfit selling little dog bone USB sticks. We should get one for our company Chihuahua, so she can have her own LivePC. I'll be there tomorrow in my Moka5 shirt so if you see me, grab me and I'll give you a private demo of our latest stuff and some exclusive Moka5 goods.

Moka5 video from one of our younger users

Today I ran across a video made by one of our younger users on how to use Moka5 to run Ubuntu alongside Windows or Mac:

He recorded the whole thing live and showed how to build a Ubuntu LivePC from scratch in just a few minutes.  Quite impressive!

3D Gaming demo in LivePC virtual machine

As you all know that we released Virtual Machine 3D Graphics Acceleration for preview a couple months back (see blog posting). We have integrated the 3D Graphics support in our latest LivePC Engine release and the moka5tools. You can now play any games on your Windows XP LivePC.

Here are a couple videos that show the games running inside the LivePC virtual machine:

Check out the videos and try out the new release with your games.

Some LivePC Easter Eggs

Software often has hidden features, called "Easter Eggs", that you can find by secret keystrokes or clicks. For Easter this year, I'll show you a few of the Easter Eggs we put in the LivePC Engine.

FPS counter

Double-click the Copyright notice to see a frames-per-second counter for the LivePC Engine. This also works on other windows, like the backup window.

Secret Advanced Settings menu

Press Ctrl-F8 on the main LivePC Engine window to bring up a menu of secret options. Be careful! These are advanced options and changing some of them make break your LivePC Engine installation.

Screenshot

The LivePC Engine windows use transparency, which makes it difficult to take a screenshot. Press Shift-F12 to take a clean screenshot of the window without your background peeking through. It saves the file in PNG format on your desktop.

These are just a few of the Easter Eggs in the LivePC Engine. Part of the fun is finding them yourself, so hunt around and you might find some more.

Virtual Machine 3D Acceleration

You may have seen our demos of 3D games running inside LivePCs at CES...well, now you can do it too. It will only let you run Direct3D 8 and 9 games/programs inside a LivePC.

Download this: moka5 3D Accelerator for LivePCs

And follow the directions in the release notes (release.txt).

This is a pre-release so there are issues. ;-)

Live from CES 2007. The final day.

Finally, it's over!! What a week! We are now sitting at the airpot waiting for our flight home.

During the week, we had so many visitors that we ran out of brochures by Wednesday morning. Luckily there is a Kinko near by. We've also given away all our blinking ice cubes and our pens (people love our bright orange color pens).

One of the guys told me that, out of the whole CES, he spent the most time at the moka5 booth. People also love our all-in-one game controller and our 3D graphics in LivePC. We were hot!!

I would like to thank all the people who visited us at CES. Thanks for all the positive comments. I hope you will have a chance to try out the LivePCs soon.

p.s. I will post more pictures when I get back into the office.

We also have a bigger booth and We are next to SlingMedia at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. If you are at CES, stop by and check us out. We have blinking ice cubes as free gifts.

Here are some pictures of us setting things up and hanging out.
